RE: Living in Cold Winter Months

One thing about the heat tape...make sure you run it on the hose connectors both at the standpipe and the RV...run it to the inside if possible. At those temps...-20, just the tape on the hose may not be sufficient. We ran tape and then the insulation right up to the side, and taped the insulation against the side.
We also made a removable insulation cover for the siamese valve that we used when hosing the sewer hose, etc. It is nice to have a working hose for outside stuff. We also insulated the sewer drain hose when we did not have a good fall angle. It helped to keep ice from building up.

RE: workamping koa casper,wy

I have not worked there, but have stayed numerous times. The new owners seem like terrific people. They offered us a position, but we were booked two years out. We like the area. Casper is a neat place.

RE: Living in Cold Winter Months

We made a hose, using the heaviest white hose we could find. Secured the heat tape along one side, didn't wrap it around the hose. Then we used the foam insulation around the hose and taped it on. It works very well and we have no problem with the heat tape.

The only time we ever HAD to be at our lot was when we were dealing with a dying father (twice). Then, we were grateful that we had the lot :E

RE: Different Thanksgiving Side Dish

I just added cranberry wheat bread to my menu. Very light yeast bread that went so well with the ham and turkey :B It would make super rolls, as well.

RE: To purchase a RV lot in a park... or not!

We bought one 9 years ago. It is in the community where we have family and there are no decent campgrounds to stay in. The lot is close to major shopping and we enjoy being there, when necessary.
Even tho we are off the road now, there is no pressure to sell it. It is rented much of the time. We don't regret our decision to buy.

RE: selling my rv or not?

We have our 2005 Teton on the market, with no interest whatsoever. We have tried various media. We will wait until spring then bring it here and use it as a guest house or something. We love that fiver. I cry every time we go to storage and check on it.

RE: house? sell it or keep it.

U missed the part where I said I will go north in the summer, nice and cool and fishing is better (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Oregon coast, Washington coast, etc.). Ever couple of years we go to Alberta and the Canadian Rockies.
No, sorry, I was referring to our 22 years of living and working in 120* desert summers, where we had to do it.

RE: Becareful where you chose to work

After 9 years and over 20 different positions, we had only one that we did not finish due to conditions. Just before we were to arrive, the site had gone from FHU 50 amp to 30 amp, no sewer, no water. We did not arrive......did tell them why :M This was a SP volunteer position :E

Magoo, we said the same thing...no more cold! Well, we found out that we missed it :E So we are back to the cold, but this time we don't have to go to work or shuttle kids around. We will deal with it on our terms :W Now we say......NO MORE desert...and 120* summers :E

RE: house? sell it or keep it.

12 years ago, when we decided to fulltime, we knew that we would not live where we retired from...no way :E One reason we fulltimed was to find a place that called to us...we found it :B Had we not spent 9 years on the road, we never would have found our landing spot.
